Defective & Unsafe Car Seats

OHIO LAWYER FOR DEFEECTIVE SEAT BELTS

Representing Families in Unsafe Car Seat Claims and Lawsuits

Children under the age of four and/or those that weigh less than 40 pounds are required to ride in a child safety seat in Ohio. Children ages four to eight and less than four feet and nine inches in height are required to use booster seats.

There’s nothing more important to a parent than the safety of their children. Parents trust car seat manufacturers with their most precious cargo, and your family deserve compensation if a manufacturing defect or inadequate instructions and warning labels result in injuries.

Car seat defects can irreparably change the course of a child’s life, and serious injuries may result in high medical and long-term care costs. Your family shouldn’t be forced to pay for those expenses out of pocket. Our attorneys are here to fight for you.

Common Types of Car Seat Defects

No components of car seats are entirely defect proof, but some issues are particularly common. Car seat defects frequently include:

  • Poor installation instructions – The safety benefits of a car seat are truly dependent on proper installation. Improper installation may make them more unsafe than having no car seat at all. Poor instructions may justify a personal injury claim if injuries result from these mistakes.
  • Weak or unreliable chest clips or buckles – Some clips or buckles that hold a child in are weak due to low-quality materials, prone to snapping, aren’t properly child proofed or inadvertently become unfastened.
  • Base unit defects – Some car seats have multiple components, including a base that’s separate from the seat. The seat can then be removed for easier transportation. If the latching mechanism is compromised, the seat may become detached from the base in the event of hard emergency braking or accidents.
  • Weak carry handles – Some car seats have carry handles that allow them to double as convenient transportation devices for short distances. A faulty carry handle may result in children being inadvertently dropped.
  • Poor padding – Padding is an important part of a child seat as it should be able to allow the child to safely compress into it without suffering injuries. If padding is too thin or ineffective, children may be injured in crashes despite being properly secured in a car seat.
